Nguyen D. Luu is a litigation attorney and founding partner of Luu Law P.C. Nguyen has devoted a decade of his legal practice to immigration law, focused on a wide range of complex immigration proceedings. Nguyen’s practice includes obtaining work visas, permanent residency, naturalization, appeals, post-conviction relief, deportation and removal defense, federal litigation, Administrative Procedure Act cases, and Writs of Mandamus. Nguyen’s passion is advocating for immigrant rights and solving difficult legal matters.
In recent years, a significant portion of Nguyen's litigation practice includes federal cases in District Courts throughout the United States. These actions are filed to challenge erroneous decisions by the U.S. government and compels action on petitions that the government has failed to adjudicate. Nguyen’s record of prevailing in these matters are often against key government agencies, such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services ("USCIS") and the U.S. Department of State ("DOS").
Nguyen is a frequently invited speaker at continuing legal education panels organized by various local and national bar associations and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Nguyen also regularly participates as an immigration law panelist at various Know Your Rights Legal Clinics and Citizenship workshops hosted by local community organizations that serve underprivileged communities.
Nguyen served as President of the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California (VABANC) during 2016 and currently serves on the judiciary committee and advisory board of VABANC. Nguyen has a deep commitment to pro bono services and frequently volunteers his time providing pro bono services at VABANC’s monthly legal clinic, in addition to AILA’s legal clinic at Jewish Family Services in Los Gatos.
During June 2010, Nguyen volunteered to help provide bilingual, pro-bono legal education clinics in the Gulf States in response to the urgent legal needs of the Vietnamese American community affected by the BP Oil Disaster. The legal clinics provided access and education concerning BP claims policy affecting thousands of Vietnamese fishermen. For his outstanding and invaluable services to the community during the clinics, Nguyen received special Congressional recognition.
In November 2021, Nguyen heeded the urgent call from AILA for volunteer attorneys. The legal relief effort was part of the United States’s Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) to support Afghan resettlement after evacuations unfolded following the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan. Along with his partner, Mai D. Luu, Nguyen traveled to the military base at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, where there were over 13,000 Afghans waiting for resettlement relief. The days on base were spent conducting presentations, workshops and consultations regarding asylum, parolee status, special immigrant visas (SIV), and humanitarian claims, and concluded with distributions of winter coats and gear, generously donated by the Vietnamese-American Professional Women of Silicon Valley. This unique opportunity to volunteer reaffirmed Nguyen’s belief that immigration attorneys have the ability to impact the lives of so many. Nguyen and Mai’s pro bono efforts were featured in the 2022 AILA Law Journal and several media outlets.
Outside of his legal practice, Nguyen is a First Tee Coach, Silicon Valley Chapter, and volunteers his time to help aspiring young golfers learn life skills through golf, a sport he avidly enjoys. When Nguyen is not on the green, he can be found camping beneath the open sky or enjoying the outdoors with his family and their dog, Moka.
